In 2023 I ventured to the state of Queretaro in central Mexico, in search of Fire Opals and Adventure. While there I discovered both, and so much more. I visited 2 local mines that are operated by families of generational miners, learned about the history and geology of the area, and spent many hours hammering away at rock in search of rainbow filled Opals.
This hand carved Fire Opal Frog I discovered in the collection of a local miner, and I knew I had to bring it back to the states. Most of the Frog is Rhyolite, which is the red rock, inside which the opals form. There are bands of rainbow white opal running down the back of the frog, and on its belly as well.
